Tips to Help You Check Car Brake Problems
We have spoken on numerous occasions about the safety triangle of our car:
As we had explained and also detect problems in them, the time has come to know how to know if your car’s brakes work well. Although here we try to show what are the most common problems in the brakes and how to renew them, before any problem you detect, go to your mechanic. Could you not play it?
Brake pedal with more travel
The brake fluid may be low or in poor condition (or there is a leak in the circuit). The brake pads may also be very worn (it is best to replace them).
Brake pedal with less travel
Parts that cause the extension or retraction of moving parts may be defective. If the pedal does not normally return to its initial position, take the car to the workshop (although in reality, whenever we talk about brakes, it is advisable to take the car to a specialized place).
Spongy pedal
The brake hoses may be deformed, so fluid pressure expands the hose, damping the pressure that must reach the pistons or jaws. It could also be due to the presence of air in the hydraulic system. Because the brake fluid is deficient or mixed with water. Or even that the piston of the caliper or the caliper itself is fluffy. The best, in this case, is a general review of the brake system.
Pedal too hard
If your brake pedal offers a lot of resistance, the pads may be dirty or stained; there is a problem in the caliper piston, problems with the brake fluid, the pads are crystallized. Also, the brake discs are damaged, or the brake booster has failed, and that is why it is more difficult to activate the pedal.
A wheel (at least) locks
Some part of the system does not work properly or is seized, clogged, or swollen. It may also be due to a defective brake pad, or the handbrake cable is engaged, which would still be working when the parking brake removed.
The brake pedal vibrates
Without confusing the vibrations with those that notice when the ABS goes into action, we may have warped discs or worn wheel bearings. You may also have to change brake pads and discs or that the wheels are poorly balanced.
Brakes hot bit
It is possible that the tablets are of poor quality or that make poor contact, or that the discs are very thin. If it happens when you go fast, and you brake very thoroughly, calm down: that is fading, the excess work that you put under the braking system, and loses efficiency with the temperature.
The car swings to one side
The side pads may be dirty, crystallized, or impregnated with grease or brake fluid. But it may not be the brakes directly, but the tires may not have the correct pressure or even ball joints or dampers in poor condition.
There is a squeak when braking
It can be from dirt in the pads, which are very worn or of poor quality. Also that they rub the tablets against the caliper or that some piece is missing. Or that the disks are in bad condition.
The professionals recommend it. If you notice any loss of effectiveness, go to the workshop. Your security depends on it.
